Chapter 14 - Summer Season Severe Weather

Extreme heat and humidity can be the hallmark of severe summer season weather. The death toll from severe summer season heat can be much higher then the much more grand in scale events such as: tornado’s, hurricanes, and floods. A heat wave is defines as a period of more than three consecutive days of maximum temperature at or above 32 degrees celsius. The effects of heat are not exclusive to this temperature or duration, with the human effects varying individual to individual. A heat wave is also regionally defined, in Florida for example the whole summer would be declared a heat wave, while in Edmonton the peak temperatures of Florida are never reached. This is me in a heatwave...if Edmonton were to have had one yet!
