Chapter 24 - Pangea

Pangea is the name used to describe the primeval landmass which was a super continent made of all of the current continental landmasses. This great landmass broke apart forming the continents and oceans as we know them today. The idea of Pangea was first conceived by German Earth scientist Alfred Wegner, who also theorized that Pangea consisted of two major parts: Laurasia in the north and Gondwanaland in the south. The landmasses that make up the continents moved slowly away from one another in what is known as continental drift. Today what we know as Eurasia and North America are considered to be remnants of Laurasia, while South America, Africa, India, Australia, and Antarctica are considered to formerly be Gondwanaland. This is a picture of me with a model of Pangea as the landmasses break apart and drift into the landmasses we know today.
